Abstract

Proposed Session Title: Sexy Web Apps with Java, Mozilla Tamarin, and Flex Proposed Session Description: In this session (James Ward or Christophe Coenraets) will do live demonstrations and write code to show how easy it is to build sexy web apps with Java, Mozilla Tamarin, and Flex. The session will cover the programming model, Java Remoting, Pub/Sub messaging and JMS integration, Data Synchronization, Hibernate integration, charting, cinematic experiences, and media integration. The day following the JUG [James or Christophe] will be hosting a free 3 hour hands-on training for JUG attendees. Please see [url] to preregister and learn more. Proposed Session Outline: The Basics - The Platform (Tamarin) - Demos - Tooling (The Free Flex SDK) - Build a simple Flex app The Programming Model (Live examples and coding) - ECMAScript / MXML - MVC / Data Binding - Server Communication - Debugging Java Back-end Integration (Live examples and coding) - Remoting - Pub/Sub Messaging and JMS Integration - Data Synchronization - Hibernate Integration Sexy / Effective / Engaging UIs (Live examples and coding) - Charting - Cinematic Experiences - Media Integration Christophe's Bio: Christophe Coenraets (coenraets.org) is a Senior Technical Evangelist at Adobe. He focuses on rich Internet applications and enterprise integration. Before joining Macromedia and Adobe, Christophe was the head of Java and J2EE Technical Evangelism at Sybase, where he started working on Java Enterprise projects in 1996. Before joining Sybase in the US, Christophe held different positions at Powersoft in Belgium, including Principal Consultant for PowerBuilder, and Manager of the Professional Services organization. Before joining Powersoft, Christophe worked as a developer and architect on several retail and BPM projects. Christophe has been a regular speaker at conferences worldwide for the last 10 years. James' Bio: James Ward (jamesward.org) is a Technical Evangelist for Flex at Adobe and Adobe's JCP representative to JSR 286, 299, and 301. Much like his love for climbing mountains he enjoys programming because it provides endless new discoveries, elegant workarounds, summits and valleys. His adventures in climbing have taken him many places. Likewise, technology has brought him many adventures, including: Pascal and Assembly back in the early 90s Perl, HTML, and JavaScript in the mid 90s then Java and many of its frameworks beginning in the late 90s. Today he primarily uses Flex to build beautiful front ends for Java based back ends. Prior to Adobe, James built a rich marketing and customer service portal for Pillar Data Systems.
