JBoss Clustering

Abstract
JBoss Clustering: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Clustering is not mentioned in the Java EE (formerlyknow as J2EE) because it is treated as vendor specific add-on feature. It is up to the application server to present the application serverto a client as if it would be one server even though a cluster ofcomputers are serving the clients. This also means that each application server's implementation is different and may influence thedesign of the application.
This presentation will start with crash course in how to set up an JBoss cluster, write an application and to deploy theapplication on it. Then we are going to have a look at two main features in a cluster "high availability" and "load balancing" and how that is implemented in JBoss.
Even though JBoss does a fairly good job in hiding the clustering from the developer it does not completely relief the developer from taking clustering into its design. I am going to discuss these challenges to the developer and how it can be solved includingHA-JNDI, Database, HA-JMS etc. The presentation will close with a live demonstration of the JBoss cluster.
Andreas Schaefer is a Senior Java Engineer and Architect with a focus on server-side technologies. He is a former JBoss and XDoclet contributor, led the SeeBeyond's (now acquired by Sun) own application server and is now an Consultant for Java SE / EE with his own company Madplanet.com.
