Abstract

Scala is a statically typed language for the JVM that seealessly interoperates with Java code. It is more deeply object oriented than Java but mixes in concepts from modern functional languages like Haskell and ML. The result is a "scalable" language - a language suitable for everything from small, throw away scripts to large enterprise applications. In this presentation I'll give a bit of a "state of the language" address about where Scala stands right now and then introduce some of its functional features from a Java perspective.
